I’m Blooming True with Flora Bowley

‘Bloom True with Flora Bowley’ – the intuitive painting e-course I’ve been desperate to take for so long – began this week and I am loving it!

The minimum canvas size Flora wants us to work on is 24 x 24 inches. That’s not excessively big but it seems quite huge to me as I’ve never painted this big before.

My first large canvas looked like this yesterday:

and today it looks like this:

acrylic on canvas, second layer, zoe ford

This is all just background stuff so it doesn’t really matter too much what it looks like at this point. What was interesting is how it came to look like this.

That first layer was just 2 colours of acrylic ink (magenta and yellow) dripped randomly all over the canvas and sprayed with water. I thought the result looked pretty stunning!

The second layer was done with my fingers dipped in heavy-bodied acrylic paints and a lot of the time I wasn’t even looking at the canvas. Truly random marks!

Our next painting day isn’t until Friday but I couldn’t wait that long, so I pulled out a 16 x 12 inch canvas board and made this collaborative background with my daughter, just using our fingertips and a mix of craft acrylics, heavy-bodied acrylics and fluid acrylics in cool colours. We had fun 🙂

As always, I have no idea how either of these paintings will turn out in the end, but the process is very freeing, very energetic and very fun!

I look forward to sharing more updates with you as I work my way through Bloom True.
